Subject: Application for a national visa for study: M.Sc. [Programme], [University]

Dear Sir or Madam,

I have been admitted to the M.Sc. [Programme] at [University], starting in the winter semester [year] (admission letter attached). I am applying for a student visa to take up this place.

I chose this programme because it combines embedded systems with condition monitoring, the subject of my B.Tech project and of my work since 2024 as a test engineer at a pump manufacturer in Pune. The modules [Module 1] and [Module 2] build directly on what I have done, and the programme is taught in English, so I can follow it from the first day while I continue learning German (A2 now, B1 course ongoing).

I chose Germany because its machine-building industry is where predictive maintenance is being developed, and public universities like [University] work closely with it. Studying there gives me both the methods and the industrial practice that I cannot find together in India.

My living costs for the first year are covered by a blocked account at [provider] (confirmation attached). My parents will support me beyond that, and I may work part-time within the limits the law allows for students.

After graduating I intend to work as a condition-monitoring engineer, in Germany or with a German company in India. I understand the conditions of a student residence permit and will comply with them.

Thank you for considering my application.

Yours faithfully,Ananya Rao

Make it your own

  • The German missions say there is no set format, but the letter must depict why you want to study in Germany and "has to come from your end and cannot be drafted by a third party".
  • Be consistent with your admission letter, your blocked account and what you will say at the interview.
  • Concrete beats general: the programme, its modules, your background, your plan.
  • Do not copy it: replace every detail with your own and write it in your own words.
