Application: Senior Embedded Software Engineer (ref. [number])

Dear Mr [Name],

For six years I have written embedded software for automotive control units at [Company], Bengaluru, most recently as the lead developer for a battery-management module now in series production. Your vacancy for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in [City] describes exactly this work, and I would like to do it in your team.

In my current role I lead four developers, own the module’s AUTOSAR configuration and its unit tests, and work daily with the German OEM’s engineers in [City]. Last year I cut the module’s start-up time by a third by reworking its initialisation sequence, which removed an open issue that had delayed a vehicle release.

Your work on [product or project] interests me because it moves the same safety questions I handle today from cars to [field]. My B.Tech in Electronics and Communication is rated equivalent in Germany (anabin, [date]), so I can be employed as a skilled worker. My German is at B1 (Goethe-Zertifikat) and I am working towards B2.

I can start three months after an offer, the notice period of my current contract. I would be glad to discuss the position in an online interview.

Kind regards,Vikram Nair

Make it your own

  • One page: the position, what you have done that matches it (with numbers where honest), why this company, your German and your availability.
  • Say plainly where you stand on recognition and the visa, so the employer does not have to guess.
  • Many German employers prefer a German version; offer one, or write it in German if your level allows.
  • Do not copy it: replace every detail with your own and write it in your own words.
